Smartwatches have been around for a while now, but there was a period during their various gen one releases where I just didn’t get the appeal. Sure, conceptually, having a supercomputer on my wrist seems neat, but the first smartwatches? How is this something to get excited about? It’s part watch and part tiny phone that doesn’t do all the things my phone can do. Hard pass.
Jump forward to a few years later when I received an Apple Watch SE (2nd Gen) for the holidays and I soon realized the watch allows me to leave my phone behind more often. You mean I can just glance at my texts and take calls without my phone?! And it periodically reminds me to stand up and stretch? Heck yeah!
Now, yes, an Apple Watch lets me do a lot more than that, but the thing I love the most is how it lets me “take a break” from my phone. Apple marketing may have tried to convey that early on, but it wasn’t until I used their watch myself that I understood where it could fit into my life.
